This painting was inspired by Billy Joel’s song ‘Piano Man’. My aim was to capture the energy of the song as this pianist plays furiously, barely touching his seat as the crowd whoop and clap and sing along, enthralled in the music and forgetting about life for a while. I also wanted to capture the warm intimate feel of the crowded pub which is by no means a grand venue, but without fail brings these people together at nine o’clock on a Saturday.
